A MESSAGE FROM THE WRITER
Welcome to Roll Out Reviews! My name is Alicia Smock and I am a writer of book reviews. I graduated from Valparaiso University in 2014 with a degree in English and have been writing book reviews and articles for authors ever since.
I started out writing reviews for Examiner.com in the summer of 2014. I was a writer for them for almost two years, read some amazing books and met some amazing people. Unfortunately, Examiner.com shut down their site in July of 2016. It was a difficult realization to grasp: if I could not write for others, what would I do? With the amazing help from the one who set up this website and with the wonderful support from my family, my readers, and from authors, Roll Out Reviews has become a reality!
My job as a writer is to make you, the writers and authors of the world, and your stories look awesome. If you wish for me to read and review your book, I will do it. If you are just starting out with your first dream debut or if you have written thirty books and would like a review on your thirty-first, I will do it. If you have written a book in non-fiction, western, science fiction, romance, young adult, fantasy, how-to, inspirational, etc., I will do it. All you need do is ask.
I love being surrounded by books. For people of the world who feel naked when they leave the house without their cell phones, that is how I am with books. A book is with me at all times, even if I never get the chance during the day to read it. Books are my “babies” and my hands are constantly covered in “battle scars.” I have plans to publish books of my own in the future, but for now, I am so happy to help you, the writers and authors of the world, let the readers of the world hear about you and your stories.
I look forward to hearing from you!
Though book reviews are my main focus, I can write other articles. The services I offer include:
~Book Reviews – Send me your book, I will read it from front to back, then I will write your review.
~Author Interviews – This is not mandatory, but I love to extend this offer to any authors who ask me to read their stories. If, after I have finished reading your book and you would like to give your readers a behind-the-scenes look of you and your book, I would be happy to talk to you. I have conducted interviews via phone call, Skype, Google Hangout, email, and a few in-person. Whichever form makes you the most comfortable, that is what how we will talk.
~Freelance Editing – This is a new service I am now offering. While completing my schooling at Valparaiso University, I discovered I loved editing and am still aspiring to become an editor for a book publishing company. If you have a story that you would like looked over once more for editing purposes, please let me know.
The first book I freelance edited was Morgan Dark’s Zero. This story was published by the Spanish publisher Rubiños 1860 in Spain and its English translation was recently published in the States in June 2016. I helped to edit the English translation and it is now available in e-book form.
~Miscellaneous – If you would like another type of article written, I would be happy to write it for you. I have written a few articles that really don’t have a home, such as a podcast for writers, reviews for movies, and even reviews on books versus their movies. If you would like for me to write about any of these topics or others, just let me know.
Being a book reviewer, I thought it would be strange if I didn’t include a list of my top five favorite books.
~Frankenstein by Mary Shelley
~Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
~The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker
~The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
~The God Thought by Dave Cravens
The best way to contact me would be through social media, preferably Twitter or Facebook (you can find my links at the top of the page). Once you do, I will give you my personal email and we will hash out a plan for me to roll out a book review for you.
